All of you may not want to hear my rantings so I'll be putting th post in a cut.
Well anyway, that was my day of shopping. Ugh! At least my trip is less than two weeks away! *squee* It's funny though, about a month ago I was really anxious about it and Grace was totally excited. Now she's starting to worry a bit and I'm cool! Go figure.
Sears: I started the day off cranky. Dunno why, just was. Maybe it wasn't the right day to go shopping. Anyway we arrived at Sears, where I usually find some really cute things that fit me. But when we walked in the door it was like fashion Hip-Hop central. Which, for anyone that knows me, really isn't my bag. And it was EVERYWHERE!! South Pole this and LL Cool J that! Come to think of it this one red sweatshirt was kinda cute . . . until I saw the pricetag. So mom and I moved on to the women's section. And THOSE clothes looked like they belonged to someone at least twice my age. So pretty much I couldn't win. Mom and I left there in a hurry. I mean at first I thought I was just being cranky and picky but mom agreed that the clothes were crap, through no fault of my own.
JC Penny: We got in the car and headed down the mall. JC Penny was much more helpful in the long run. Though, at first, I didn't see anything I liked. Many designers seem to be using this pukey 70s color palette. Browns, Olive Greens, Orange (not like pretty orange but ugly burnt orange). It was nasty! And the prints were gross too. Luckily, on my second walk through of the racks, I found a couple of things. Now we reach my same old shopping issue: sizing. *head desk* I've gained some weight. Though I'm about the same size that I was when I last bought clothes. Despite that fact that I have several shirts in my closet that are 1x, I figured that with my hips and my boobs I'd be safe shirts that were size 2x. "Figured" being the operative word here. Yeah well, long story short, the 2x didn't fit. Had to move on to the 3x . . . and I almost had kittens. I had to remind myself that they change sizes more often than I change my underwear. And the size didn't really matter so long as it looked nice . . . Which my ego had a hard time buying. But I got four tops and some pants. Oh! And I saw my 4th Grade teacher! Mrs. Wundrum. Wow, *that* was strange. Nice, but strange. She looked the same. Shorter hair, but same smile. And though she didn't really recognize me, she did know mom and seemed very pleased with my academic accomplishments.
Wal-Mart: Yes, I shop at Wal-Mart. I'm poor. When you can find shirts for bigger people as cheap as for smaller ones, you do what you have to. Am i right?? Anyway we got there and I wanted to get into the trunk to put something in there. This is also where we had placed my JC Penny loot. Long story short, I couldn't get my trunk open. Nothing worked. *head desk again* So we continued in to Wal-Mart. Got what I needed for school and all the little travel sized stuff for my trip. Very cool. Found more shirts too. And bras, which I was in desperate need of. TMI?? Lol, that's why it's in a cut people. While Mom was checking out I waited for her on a bench near the exit. And I saw my Jr. High Spanish teacher, Mrs. Rutiger. She looked great! Happy, healthy and she knew me immediately. Didn't remember my name until I told her but that's okay. It was ten years ago for cryin out loud! She, too, seemed rather pleased with my achievements. Her eyes got real big when I told her I went to Mills . . . My ego was thus restored. She's apparently back working for American Airlines. And Mr. Arden, for anyone who remembers him, is happily retired and working on his photography.
So that was pretty much the end of my day. The trunk still wouldn't open when we got home so I had to use the small hatch in the backseat. Pull out each garment one by one and then pull the bag out. Apparently mom got the trunk open yesterday though, quite randomly. We still should have it looked at though when we have the money.
